A very rare "Brock" Zeppelin dart. Manufactured by C.T. Brock, 1915.
During the early part of WW1 Britain was getting increasingly worried about the possible threat of attack by airship.
Several companies at the time designed explosive "darts" or bullets that would hopefully destroy, or disable an enemy airship. One of these was the Brock factory.
This early dart (constructed of gun metal with a steel forward tip) could be fitted with a timed fuse. A pilot could drop it on the Zeppelin from above - the steel tip hopefully puncturing the outer fabric, the charge then exploding, igniting the hydrogen gas.
Very few of these early darts survive outside of museums.
A copy of a document held by the RAF museum, referring to this exact design is included.
A unique piece of WW1 Zeppelin history.
