A very rare, and particularly compact early French aviation altimeter - Circa 1910.

Marked Aviation Militaire, and has a low number of 264.
Most probably used on an early airship or pioneering aeroplane.

The instrument is in fine untouched original condition, showing excellent patina.
The beveled glass, sliver dial and pointer are all very clear. Etched on the rear of the case is 'H Z3' this could well be an airship or aeroplane I.D.

Unusually it is fitted with a leather band to allow fitting to an aircraft via four metal loops.
Most French altimeters were fully enclosed within a leather case.
