**SOLD**
A rare and totally original Royal Flying Corp Mk V, 30 Hour - pilot’s cockpit watch.
Circa - 1916.
This example has a movement by Doxa, and is non luminous. It remains untouched with excellent patina. It also retains the original leather pouch to protect it when not fitted within the cockpit holder.
The dial and hands are very clean and clear, the correct bevelled glass is in place - this has a few small scratches, many were replaced with perspex. Time keeping is excellent. The rear of the case has a clear R.F.C. mark.
Most importantly the winding stalk has not been converted for use as a later pocket watch, and so is not drilled for a ring.
The case, although dull with some small blemishes is in good original condition - in our opinion it would be 'removing history' if it were to be polished.
** It has been brought to our attention that the leather case was most probably used in the cockpit to 'hold' the watch. If it were simply a protection case when not in use in the cockpit, there would be no need for the face to be shown, or to have a fixing hole at the top.
This WW1 Cockpit Watch Is Rare.
